History
Multi Media Satellite Services BV was founded end of 2004 and started out
offering mobile broadband services via the Thuraya satellite to customers
in the press and media and the government market. We have an own gateway at the Thuraya teleport in Sjarjah to provide these services to our small and portable broadband terminals. During 2005 M2sat services were mainly provided to broadcasters for Satellite
News Gathering missions in Africa e.g. enabling live video reports from Sudan
and Niger using the integrated SNGlight terminals.
Extension M2sat platform to Ku-band (2005)
To cater for the demand for higher bandwidth, the M2sat system was further extended. At IBC2005 the
Ku-band version of M2sat was introduced, complete with a range portable antennas. As with the SNGlight the Ku-band satellite terminal had an integrated video codec providing
a full FlyAway Satellite Newsgathering solution called the
M2sat KuSNGlight.
Introduction SNGstreamer (2006)
The higher bandwidths of the M2sat Ku-band platform makes it a very attractive
tool for IP-Video streaming, and at IBC2006 the M2sat SNGstreamer was introduced. This MPEG-4 based Streaming
Solution provides a vehicle based video contribution system that comes at half the price of traditional MPEG-2
solutions but is providing the same video quality. As DriveAway SNG solution the system attracted
a lot of interested from both from the new generation of IP-Video producers
as well as from traditional broadcasters.
